Wilkes County Veterinary Services is a dedicated provider of comprehensive veterinary care in Washington, GA . The Veterinary Assistant will play a crucial role in providing exceptional care to our patients and supporting our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a veterinary setting, demonstrating strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for animal care. This full-time position requires a dedicated professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care:
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with medical procedures, including administering medications, taking vital signs, and preparing animals for surgery.
- Provide compassionate care to patients during examinations, treatments, and recovery, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Restrain animals safely and effectively during exams, procedures, and treatments.
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare and maintain medical equipment and supplies, ensuring all items are sterilized and in good working condition.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, including blood draws, urinalysis, and fecal exams, and prepare samples for external testing.
- Monitor and record patient progress, including updating medical records and communicating relevant information to veterinarians and pet owners.
Client Interaction:
- Greet clients and their pets upon arrival, and assist with check-in and check-out processes.
- Educate clients on post-operative care, medication administration, and general pet health, providing clear and empathetic instructions.
- Address client inquiries and concerns professionally and provide exceptional customer service.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate and organized medical records, including documenting patient information, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Schedule appointments, follow up on missed appointments, and manage client communications via phone and email.
- Assist with inventory management, including ordering and restocking supplies as needed.
Facility Maintenance:
- Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of exam rooms, treatment areas, and common spaces, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of clinic equipment and report any malfunctions or issues to management.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is required.
- Hands-on experience with veterinary procedures, animal handling, and client communication is essential.
Skills:
- Strong clinical skills, including the ability to administer medications, perform basic lab tests, and handle various medical equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule:
