Job Description

• Will be working in multiple disciplines, including chemistry, biology, physical sciences, physics, and engineering.
• Set up and breakdown of academic lab experiments/activities including chemistry, biology, environmental science, and possibly some physical science and physics, with guidance.
• Aid in special projects from Coordinator with guidance
• Aid in lab organization, inventory and supply rotation with guidance
• Maintain a safe and clean work area

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Help with special events & projects
• Unbox and put away packages per PO’s with guidance
• Must be able to clean dishes from science labs
• Autoclave microbial and cell culture waste
• Replenish lab supplies
• Aid in lab safety procedures
• Run dishwashers
• Maintain eyewash and shower stations
• Run biological indicator tests on autoclave
• Maintain livestock
• Be adaptable and able to work well with students of all ability levels, faculty, and staff
• Exhibit good written and oral communication skills
• Handle other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

• High school/ GED or above
• No experience needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Computer experience with working knowledge of Windows, Word, and Excel, as well as be willing to learn other software or programs as necessary
• Knowledge of general lab safety, good oral communication skills.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

• Approx. Schedule: Flexible daytime. 10-15 hours a week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift and move up to a maximum of 10 pounds assisted, the physical activity of this position includes, but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting and sitting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.

This is a non-exempt (hourly), overtime eligible position; Grade 101 (pay scale:$15.00-$24.00/hr). The hourly rate for the position based on budget is $15.00/hr. Applicants initial salary placement is based on internal equity and relevant candidate experience.
