Safe Haven Space is committed to offering mental health and well-being services to refugee students and their families. Mental health has a harmful stigma prevalent in many communities around the world, especially among the refugee population. After being forced out of their original communities, it becomes harder for refugee students to function in both school and life settings without healing from the trauma they encounter before, during, and after their transition to the United States of America. We want to help them succeed in American life and make their adjustment to cultural changes easier through school programs and community engagement. The concept behind this organization stems from personal experience. As a refugee herself, our Founder is no stranger to the stigmatization of mental health in the community. Position Overview: The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, and submitting compelling grant proposals to secure funding that supports SHS’s programs and initiatives. Responsibilities: Research potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government entities that align with SHS’s mission. Write and submit high-quality, tailored grant proposals and applications. Develop a calendar of grant deadlines and manage timely submissions. Collaborate with the Director of Development and program staff to gather the necessary data, program details, and budgets for grant applications. Track the status of submitted grants and ensure all follow-up documentation, such as reports and acknowledgments, are completed. Maintain a database of grant opportunities, submission histories, and funding sources. Stay informed about trends and best practices in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising.
