Job Overview

Deliver the Graduate Jeweler (GJ) program curriculum while fostering an engaging, supportive, and efficient learning atmosphere for students attending the on-site GJ course.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students in the On-Campus Graduate Jeweler Program, using jewelry manufacturing and repair equipment (torches, files, saws, micro-motor, polishing equipment, hand tools, audio-visual aids, and other materials) to supplement presentations.
  • Impart appropriate and relevant course material consistent with GIAs reputation, standards, and integrity.
  • Address student concerns, complaints, or issues promptly; interface with Dean of Students, Manager, Education (Carlsbad) and/or other Education staff as needed for further action.
  • Coach students regarding academic performance and methods for improvement.
  • Maintain and foster sensitivity and respect for a culturally diverse classroom environment.
  • Proctor tests; receive, correct, and process student assignments; submit final grades to management or Student Services per schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Technical Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of jewelry manufacturing and repair techniques and equipment; understanding of the jewelry industry.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite; e-mail; Blackboard or other LMS).
  • Ability to demonstrate theory and contemporary knowledge; continuing study in the field.
  • Ability to present course material and provide feedback to students; interface effectively with staff and students.
  • Strong communication and professional behavior under pressure.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of three years related practical jewelry industry experience
  • Bachelors degree and five years related experience preferred
